publicado a la‎(s)‎ 12/07/2011 18:49 por C O2 ‎(principal)‎

"This study therefore looks at some of the key financial, institutional, and legal issues and benefit sharing mechanisms at the international level that may be important to consider in the context of constantly envolving REDD+ regimes. It provides an analysis of how to develop a REDD+ framework that not only is effective at reducing emmisions from deforestation and degradation, but also how to do so in a way that promotes sustainable development and equitable benefit sharing".

REDD+, transparency, participation and resource rights: the role of law

publicado a la‎(s)‎ 27/04/2011 13:11 por C O2 ‎(principal)‎

One of the crucial questions which emerges in the context of REDD+ is how the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities will be protected. These rights include the rights of sharing in the financial benefits of REDD+, the rights to participate in decision-making around REDD+ schemes, and the rights to have their knowledge about forestry resources respected. Each of these issues depends on the extent to which they have some sort of claim to, or tenure over, tropical rainforests. While the REDD+ Advance Negotiating Text is ‘groundbreaking’ for including references to the rights of indigenous peoples, and local communities, the implementation of these rights requires clarity with respect to the type of tenure which grants property rights in forest carbon. In addition, the rights cannot be simply asserted without undertaking a detailed legal analysis of transparency norms, legal standing and transparent access to decision-making in each tropical rainforest country.

Updated REDD-plus guide

publicado a la‎(s)‎ 15/03/2011 12:28 por C O2 ‎(principal)‎   [ actualizado el 24/03/2011 10:51 ]

New Guide for REDD-plus Negotiators - updated after the Cancun Climate Conference. The guide is available in English, French and Spanish.
The purpose of this guide is to assist developing country negotiators and others who are working on REDD-plus. This is an updated version of the guide that was released in October 2010.

Summary
REDD-plus is a very complicated issue. It is complicated technically. It is complicated politically. Although many countries are interested in reaching agreement on REDD-plus they also have different priorities and different views on key issues in the negotiations.
The negotiations on REDD-plus have complicated links with several other issues that are also under negotiation, which can make it difficult to maintain an overview and keep up with the implications of different proposals. This guide gives an overview of these processes and gives tips to negotiators.

The guide is divided into three parts:
Part I considers REDD-plus in the negotiations
Part II contains general negotiating tips for new REDD-plus negotiators and others
Part III contains UNFCCC documents that are often referred to in REDD-plus negotiations
